How We Tested
To determine the best travel backpacks of 2026, we started with a candidate pool of 35 top-rated carry-on bags. To ensure reliable, systematic testing, we packed each bag with a standard one-week travel loadout, including a 16-inch laptop, packing cubes, toiletries, and an extra pair of shoes. We then tested the loaded backpacks for comfort during long walks, navigated simulated TSA checkpoints, and evaluated how well the harnesses transferred weight from the shoulders to the hips.
